The National University Scholars Program is a scholarship and educational program created to reward exceptional students. Celebrating the University’s diverse student population, this program offers a high-impact experience through recognizing students who demonstrate potential for high achievement and contribution to society with a special emphasis on leadership, service, scholarship and academic excellence.

Graduating with distinction as a National University Scholar in mid-2019 with an estimated GPA of 3.92.  I began this program in September 2017 while working full time as the Principal Accountant and Expert Witness in Probabilistic Depreciation at San Diego Gas & Electric, and continued after becoming the Director of Fiscal Affairs in the Department of Medicine at University of California San Diego School of Medicine.  I placed studies on hold from July through December 2018 for the birth of our second child, promptly returning in January 2019 to complete my final course and capstone project.

Program Overview

Big data is the result of mass amounts of transactions made available to the business world for scientific research. Effectively managing and mining big data requires unique skills that are currently in high demand. The Master of Science in Business Analytics online and on-campus courses teach you to apply scientific knowledge to big data in ways that reveal practical patterns that can be used to improve business decisions. This information is invaluable in measuring the success of operations, forecasts, and strategic planning.

In the program you’ll learn to analyze data in an analytics environment and evaluate methods and technologies to organize and normalize data for use in statistical analysis. You’ll discover how to construct data files and statistical models to help guide a company in reducing costs, increasing efficiency, and reducing risk.
